Paste a YouTube link…

Everything you need to save part of a YouTube video.

One paste, and it’s yours, at the quality and format you want.

Only the part you want

Vidferry fetches just the stretch between your start and end times, not the whole video, so a two-minute answer from a three-hour stream doesn't cost you three hours of data.

One file per chapter

When a video has chapters, Split by chapter saves each one as its own numbered file, like 01 Intro.mp4, in a folder named after the video. Handy for album uploads and long courses.

Clip the sound, too

Switch the format to MP3 or M4A and the clip comes out as audio only: one verse, one quote, one segment of a podcast.

Timestamps fill themselves in

Paste a link that already has a timestamp, like ?t=90, and the start time is filled in for you. Pick a chapter from the list and both times are set at once.

Save the part, not the whole video

Most of the time you don’t want the whole video. You want the two minutes of a three-hour stream where the question finally got answered, the one song in a concert upload, the demo in the middle of a long tutorial. Downloading all of it and trimming afterwards wastes time, disk space and a trip through an editor.

Vidferry skips that. Set Length to Clip, type a start and an end, and it asks YouTube for that stretch only. The file’s name ends with its range, like 1m30s-2m45s.mp4, and it’s ready to drop into a message, a slide or a timeline. Switch the format to MP3 or M4A and the same clip comes out as audio.

Chapters, one file each

When an uploader adds chapters, a long video is already cut into pieces for you. Split by chapter saves each piece as its own file, numbered and titled (01 Intro.mp4, 02 Setup.mp4), inside a folder named after the video. For an album uploaded as one video, that’s a folder of tracks. With Tag files on, each file carries its chapter title, track number, channel and cover art, so a music app shows them in order.

Why an app instead of a trimmer website

Search for a YouTube trimmer or cutter and you’ll mostly find websites. They work, but every link you paste runs through their servers, and the free ones pay for themselves with ads and redirects. Vidferry does the cut on your own Mac or PC, with no account and nothing uploaded. Clips stay sharp, too: they come from the same quality options as a full download, up to 4K.

How to download part of a YouTube video

Three steps, about a minute. No setup, no sign-up.

  1. 1

    Copy the YouTube link

Copy the video's URL. If you copy it at the moment the part you want begins, the timestamp comes along with it.

  2. 2

    Set Length to Clip

Paste it into Vidferry, set Length to Clip, and type a start and an end. 1:30, 1:02:03 and plain seconds all work.

  3. 3

    Save the clip

Pick video or audio and hit Ferry it. The file is named with its range, like 1m30s-2m45s, so you can tell your clips apart.

YouTube clip downloader FAQ

Paste the link into Vidferry, set Length to Clip, and type a start and an end time. Vidferry downloads only that range and saves it as an MP4, or as an MP3 or M4A if you switch to audio. There's nothing to trim afterwards.

Audio clips start and stop on the times you type. Video clips are cut without re-encoding, which keeps them quick and full quality, so the file starts at the nearest keyframe. Most players begin right at your start time, but some editors show a few extra seconds before it.

YouTube sends a clip at about the speed it plays, so a ten-minute stretch takes a few minutes to save. For long stretches, downloading the whole video is often quicker, and Vidferry says so when your clip is three minutes or longer.

Yes, when the uploader added chapters. Set Length to Split by chapter and Vidferry saves one file per chapter, numbered and titled, in a folder named after the video. With Tag files on, which is the default, each file carries its chapter's title, the channel and the cover art, so music apps list them as tracks.

No. Clips and chapter splits work on one video at a time. Paste the single video's link, or download the playlist in full from the YouTube downloader.

No. A clip or a chapter split doesn't include a transcript. If you need the captions, download the full video with Save transcript on, or grab just the words from the YouTube transcript downloader.

No, it's a desktop app for Mac and Windows. The trimming happens on your own computer, so nothing you clip is uploaded anywhere and there are no ads in the way. It's $12 once.
