MP4 in, WAV out

Drop in a MP4 file and get a WAV back with the same name. Other audio and video formats convert just as well if you have strays to deal with.

Your file stays on your machine

Most online converters upload your file to their server. This one doesn't. The work happens inside this browser tab, and closing the tab clears everything.

No sign-up, no watermark, no daily cap

Convert as many files as you like, back to back. Nobody's counting, and nothing gets stamped on the result.

Uncompressed and editor-ready

The WAV comes out as standard 16-bit PCM, the flavor every audio editor, DAW, and transcription tool opens without complaint.

The editor’s shortcut

You filmed the thing, and now you need the sound of the thing: the interview from a talking-head shoot, the room audio from an event, dialogue that’s headed for a podcast edit, a meeting recording bound for a transcription tool. Editors and DAWs will import video, but they’re happiest fed clean PCM audio, and transcription engines are too.

This page takes the video and hands back exactly that: a standard 16-bit WAV of the audio track, extracted in your browser and written on your machine. Whether the footage is a client’s or your own, it never uploads anywhere.

Why not just grab an MP3?

If the audio’s final stop is your ears, do that; the MP4 to MP3 converter makes a file a tenth the size. WAV earns its bulk when the audio has another edit ahead of it. Every lossy encode stacks: video compression, then MP3, then your editor’s export makes three. Going video to WAV to final export keeps it at two.

Any container, same result

MP4 is in the page title because MP4 is what people search, but MOV from an iPhone, MKV or TS from a screen recorder, and WebM saved from the web all work identically. The audio track inside is what matters, and it comes out as the same editor-ready WAV either way.

How to convert MP4 to WAV

Three steps, less than a minute. No setup, no sign-up.

  1. Drop in the MP4 file

Drag it into the box above, or click Choose a file and pick it from a folder.

  2. Let it convert

WAV has no quality settings to fiddle with; it always comes out as standard uncompressed audio. The conversion runs on your machine and takes a few seconds.

  3. Save the WAV

Hit Download and the WAV lands with the same name as the original, ready to play or edit.

MP4 to WAV converter FAQ

Because you're probably going to edit it. Pulling the audio as WAV means no extra compression pass before your editor adds its own on export. If you just want to listen, the MP4 to MP3 page makes a far smaller file.

About 10 MB per minute of stereo audio, regardless of how big the video was. An hour of footage becomes roughly a 600 MB WAV, so make sure the destination is an editor, not an email.

The first track is the one that comes out, which is the main mix in almost every file. Multi-track captures from OBS with separate mic and desktop audio need a desktop editor to split properly.

No. The extraction happens inside this browser tab, on your machine. For unreleased footage or client work, nothing about the file goes anywhere.

It stays exactly as the video recorded it. WAV faithfully carries whatever the track holds, compressed source and all; what it won't do is degrade it further.
